NEWS - Alchemy VA's Charity of the Year The Lewis Foundation launches ‘Lap of Honour’

Midlands based charity The Lewis Foundation are bringing its 2020 fundraiser online to celebrate, remember and raise awareness of adults affected by cancer treatment.
Alchemy Virtual Assitance's chosen Charity of the Year 2020 is The Lewis Foundation. This incredible charity provide free gifts and support packs to cancer patients across nine Midlands hospitals. The volunteer team are calling for supporters to choose an activity and take part in a virtual ‘Lap of Honour’ (#TLFLap).
Participants can walk, run skip, jump, bike or swim any distance, for any length of time during the online fundraising event and are encouraged to share their fundraising successes, videos and pictures on social media.
Lorraine Lewis, CEO of The Lewis Foundation, says the ‘Lap of Honour’ will be an exciting and inclusive fundraiser for anyone, of any age and ability, to get involved in.
“We had been planning a big celebratory fun run to mark our four-year anniversary before lockdown, but we obviously had to completely rethink the whole thing,” said Lorraine, who runs the charity with her husband, Lee.
"When Covid hit fundraising had to be put on hold, and we had to focus entirely on our core services. Remarkably, we still managed to gift over 7,000 support packs to cancer patients in hospital and home during that period – they include overnight essentials, toiletries and other helpful items that many people find difficult to buy themselves or simply cannot afford.
Now that social distancing is continuing, adults are still having to go through cancer treatment alone. Our gifts bring them comfort and help them to feel less alone and afraid during this unsettling time, so it now feels right to revive our fundraising ideas, and instead make them virtual so that all our supporters, volunteers, families and even cancer patients themselves can take part.”
The Lewis Foundation’s ‘Lap of Honour’ will begin on Saturday 3rd October and continue until December 2020.
