Squats Save Lives - Supporting Meningitis Now
You may already know Laura Barley? She is based just south of Glasgow and back in 2021 became Alchemy VA’s very first Scottish Franchise Partner.
Laura has built an incredibly successful Virtual Assistant business over the years. Supported by the Alchemy VA Family and her remarkable team of Virtual Assistants, Laura takes care of a diverse and eclectic mix of inspiring and innovative entrepreneurs across Scotland and much further afield.
What you may not know is that tragically Laura’s husband succumbed to meningitis almost 9 years ago - when their son was just one. Since then, Laura has been doing her part to help raise awareness of meningitis as well as taking part and leading various fundraising activities.
Laura’s previous charitable efforts include having raised over £22k for charity with friends, walking the Great Wall of China. More recently in 2022, to mark what would have been Laura & Euan’s tenth wedding anniversary, Laura organised a charity ball in Euan’s honour raising over £2,300 for Meningitis Now.
To start 2025 Laura is completing a much smaller, but by no means any easier or less significant challenge - completing 100 squats every day throughout January!
Whilst donations are gratefully received and invaluable to support the incredible work of Meningitis Now, to Laura, raising awareness of meningitis is the much more significant goal. Laura courageously shares her story with the hope of preventing anyone enduring the unthinkable heartbreak of losing a loved one to meningitis.
“It’s about telling people about Euan’s symptoms, which were similar to a cold. Absolutely not in a bid to frighten anyone! We knew it wasn’t ’just’ a cold, but didn’t imagine it was something so critical.” - Laura Barley
Taking a few seconds to familiarise yourself with the symptoms of meningitis in both children & adults could save a life.
Meningitis Now is the leading UK charity with 30 years experience, dedicated to raising awareness of meningitis, providing support and funding preventative research. Meningitis is a life threatening, infectious disease that can leave devastation in its wake. Of those who survive, many will suffer life changing after-effects..
Meningitis Now work tirelessly to ensure a brighter future, where no one dies from meningitis and anyone affected gets the support they need to live a happy, full and complete life.
At the time of writing, Laura has already raised over £100 and has completed 850 squats out of 2250.
