Lynsey, who spent 12 years working in a specialist green investment business within a global asset management firm, has embraced self-employment by launching her own virtual assistant business under the Alchemy VA umbrella. Based in Edinburgh, she offers expert support services, including diary management, board administration, project coordination, social media management, and executive communication, catering to service-based businesses across the region.

“My redundancy was initially daunting, but it became a turning point in my career,” said Lynsey. “I had always dreamed of running my own business but hesitated due to financial responsibilities as a single parent. After exploring employment opportunities, I soon realised that self-employment would give me the flexibility and autonomy I needed, while allowing me to grow professionally.”

Lynsey’s journey is particularly inspiring as she lives with Muscular Dystrophy. Rather than allowing her condition to define her, she has used her experience to shape a resilient and empowering career.
